How to determine and record VDO and centric relation
Part 3b of a 5-part series on Keys to Success and Predictability With Fabrication of Complete Dentures
Part 1: Set Yourself Up for Success — Use the initial consultation/ examination to glean essential information about candidates for complete dentures
Part 2: Making A Great Impression — Simplified accurate edentulous impressions and other records for enhancing complete denture success
Part 3a: Accurate Denture Records — How to Determine and Record Tooth Position
Part 3b (this article): Accurately recording vertical dimension of occlusion and centric relation
Part 5: Delivering Successful Complete Dentures
Synopsis:
Achieving predictability and success in fabricating tissue-supported complete dentures requires a thorough understanding of key elements, such as determining and recording vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and centric relation (CR). This continuing education course addresses concepts and techniques applicable to all types of tissue-supported complete dentures, including digital, implant-retained and traditional analog approaches. The course covers three common challenges encountered during denture fabrication and offers practical strategies for effective resolution.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
Understand the definitions and clinical significance of VDO and CR in complete denture fabrication.
Discuss a simplified technique for accurately locating and recording CR using the gothic arch tracing device.
Compare the differences between vertical dimensions of rest, speech and occlusion, and their roles in denture fabrication.
Implement procedures for recording accurate VDO and CR using simplified techniques.
